OpenAI is still working on this ‘super app’

OpenAI plans to release an improved version of ChatGPT in the coming weeks – one that will serve as a “super app” with coding tools and AI agents. according to the Financial Times..

The company’s goal is reportedly to become more competitive with Anthropic, particularly among business customers, and to get closer to profitability before an IPO. This means turning ChatGPT into a gateway for free users to products they could actually pay for, such as Codex’s coding product. In fact, the FT quotes one senior OpenAI employee as saying: “Chat is dead.”

Thibault Sottiaux, who leads OpenAI’s core product and platform, said the company is working on a product “where you will have your own personal agent who will be able to help you… in all aspects of your life, whether personally or at work.”

If this sounds familiar, it’s because such cases have already existed reports on OpenAI’s super app ambitions since last year.

In March, The Wall Street Journal reported on these plans represent a major change in strategy for the company after introducing a number of stand-alone products to the market in 2025; OpenAI executives now say they are abandoning “side jobs” like the Sora video generator.
