Improving ambulance response using machine learning
Modern research from Victoria University of Wellington aims to apply machine learning models to improve response times in emergency situations.
Supported by a grant from the Modern Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, the study is developing ML models that are reported to analyze an emergency situation and its urgency to determine which ambulance can respond appropriately in the event of an emergency. minimize response time.
“There is a clear relationship between patient mortality and response times. Our goal is to reduce the average response time of our emergency services to make better use of existing resources and ensure they are available to those who need them most. Literally every minute counts.” explained Jordan MacLachlan, author of the study and a PhD student in computer science at Victoria University of Wellington.
Combining full-body 3D imaging and artificial intelligence for faster melanoma screening
The Australian Cancer Research Foundation’s Center of Excellence in Melanoma Imaging and Diagnostics is conducting a study to test whether the combination of artificial intelligence and 3D whole-body photography will speed up and improve skin cancer imaging.
The project, supported by A$3 million ($2 million) from the Australian Federal Government’s Future of Medical Research Fund, focuses on improving skin cancer detection in regional and rural communities, where fewer than one in ten dermatologists in the country practice.
According to a press release, the project, which also aims to inform work on a national melanoma screening program, will be implemented at nine regional hospitals and health centers in Queensland, Modern South Wales and Victoria.
