As generative media becomes more advanced and accessible, it’s vital to know where content comes from and whether it has been altered. Today, we’re expanding our content transparency and verification tools across Search, Gemini, Chrome, Pixel and Cloud, and deepening our partnerships with the broader industry.
Scaling our technology
Three years ago, we introduced SynthID, our industry-leading digital watermarking technology that embeds imperceptible signals into AI-generated content. We have since integrated SynthID into our generative media models and products, adding watermarks to over 100 billion images and videos and 60,000 years of audio recordings.
We are using more and more of our generative media tools C2PA content credentialsan industry standard showing how media was created and modified, with or without the exploit of artificial intelligence. Pixel 10 was the first smartphone to provide photo content authentication in the native camera app, and we’ll be expanding this technology to include video on Pixel 8, 9, and 10 phones in the coming weeks.
Using this technology, Pixel documents as soon as the camera captures content. We believe that in the era of generative media, identifying true, unedited content can be as vital as knowing when a file was created or edited using artificial intelligence.
Provide more ways to verify content
Our goal is to facilitate you better understand the content you encounter online. That’s why we recently added SynthID verification for image, video and audio to Gemini application. It has already been used 50 million times around the world, and we’ll expand this verification capability to Search and Chrome in the coming weeks.
You can find out about an image’s origins by using search features such as Lens, AI Mode and Search Wheel, as well as Gemini in Chrome. Just ask, “Was this made using AI?” or “Is this AI generated?”
We’re also adding C2PA content credential verification to easily check whether the content is the unaltered original from the camera or whether it has been modified and with what tools. This feature will be available in the Gemini app today and will be available in Search and Chrome in the coming months. This is based on features such as YouTube labels that identify AI-generated content, and our collaboration with trusted testers at Backstory to make detection tools faster and more reliable.
