OpenAI has delayed the launch of “Adult Mode,” a ChatGPT feature that will give verified adult users access to erotica and other adult content.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman first announced the feature in October, writing: “In December, as we implement more complete age controls and as part of our ‘treat adult users like adults’ policy, we’ll be rolling out even more, like erotica for verified adults.”
The start has already taken place once delayed, from December – when Altman reportedly sent an internal memo declaring “code red” and urging teams to focus on ChatGPT’s core functionality – to the first quarter of this year.
Now – an OpenAI spokesperson told Axios that the company is “postponing the launch of adult mode” to “focus on work that is now a higher priority for more users,” such as working on aspects such as intelligence, personality, and making the chatbot “more proactive.”
“We still believe in the principle of treating adults like adults, but it will take more time to get the experience,” the spokesman said.
It is unclear how long the delay will last. The message was there first reported by Sources.
