ChatGPT for Mac is available now, but its advanced, flirty voice mode has been delayed

Now OpenAI says it will “need another month before we get to our ticker and launch” an alpha version of the up-to-date voice mode to a compact group of ChatGPT Plus subscribers, with plans to make access available to all Plus customers in the fall. One specific area that OpenAI says it is improving is the ability to “detect and reject specific content.”

As for the up-to-date video and screen sharing capabilities we saw at the event, OpenAI writes that it will “keep you updated” on the timeline. OpenAI said it will deliver the up-to-date capabilities in the “coming weeks.” The company now writes that “exact timelines are subject to meeting our high security and reliability requirements.”

The assistant bears an uncanny resemblance to Johansson’s virtual character from the film Her were part of an OpenAI demonstration showing how a bot powered by GPT-4o could observe and respond to the world around a user in real time. He could also carry on a conversation in a much more natural way and tolerate interruptions with what CEO Sam Altman called “human-level reaction times and expression.”

However, a desktop application started today for macOS users. Once you’ve installed the Mac app, pressing Option and Spacebar at the same time can open ChatGPT from anywhere, allowing it to chat about whatever’s on your screen at that moment. The Windows application is expected to appear later this year.
