Earlier this month Guardian published an investigation that found that Google provided misleading and completely false information through artificial intelligence reviews in response to some medical queries. Now it appears that these results have been deleted. According to original report: :
In one case that experts called “truly dangerous,” Google wrongly advised people with pancreatic cancer to avoid high-fat foods. Experts said this is the exact opposite of what should be recommended and may raise patients’ risk of dying from the disease.
In another “alarming” example, the company provided false information about key liver function tests that could mislead people with sedate liver disease into thinking they were fit.
As of this morning, AI is analyzing questions like “what is the normal range for liver blood tests?” were completely turned off. Google declined to comment regarding specific deletion Guardian. This was announced by spokesman Davis Thompson Edge that: “We invest significantly in the quality of AI reviews, particularly for topics like health, and the vast majority provide accurate information. Our internal team of clinicians reviewed the information shared with us and found that in many cases the information was not inaccurate and was also supported by high-quality websites. Where AI reviews lack some context, we work to make overall improvements and, where appropriate, take action in line with our policies.”
January 11 update: Added comment from Google.
