Somehow, this AI-generated McDonald’s ad about hating Christmas turned out to be a flop

If you’re having a stressful holiday season, McDonald’s is the answer – at least that’s what a deleted AI-generated ad suggests, according to Futurism.

The ad, with a song calling the holiday season “the scariest time of the year,” shows AI-generated humans falling victim to a series of winter misfortunes, including family dinners, shopping, caroling, cookie baking and Christmas tree decorating, each of which ends in failure in some way. The ad ends with a call for viewers to “hide out at McDonald’s until January.”

However, unlike the Coca-Cola ad, the McDonald’s ad took the risk of including people, not just cartoon forest creatures. Most of the people in the ad are never seen again, and some shots are a bit off, such as the one showing someone falling while ice skating, only for their limbs to turn gelatinous halfway through.

IN post on LinkedInThe Gardening.club, the artificial intelligence arm of The Sweetshop studio that created the ad, said it took them “seven intense weeks” to create the ad. They even admitted that “the man-hours put into this film are more than traditional production.”

Melanie Bridge, general manager of The Sweetshop, shared similar comments in: post on Instagramsaying, “The time spent on this job was far beyond a traditional photo shoot. Ten people, five weeks, full time. Blood, sweat, tears and a truly absurd amount of coaxing the models to behave and honor the creative brief shot after shot.”
