Jeff Bezos has a modern job. He will reportedly become co-CEO of Project Prometheus, a modern startup he is partially financing. The company’s exact plans are still unknown, but it is focusing on artificial intelligence that can improve production in fields such as computing, automotive and aviation.
New York Times reports that Project Prometheus is already one of the better-funded early-stage startups in the world, with $6.2 billion in investments, partly invested by Bezos himself. In addition to financing the venture, he will assist run the company with co-founder Vik Bajaj. He is a physicist and chemist who once worked at Google X, the company’s experimental “Moonshot factory,” before founding health technology company Verily, an Alphabet spinoff venture.
Project Prometheus reportedly employs almost 100 employees, including former OpenAI, DeepMind and Meta employees. With Bezos now among them, this will be his first formal operational role at the company since he stepped down as Amazon CEO in 2021, although he has since taken a keen interest in his SpaceX rival Blue Origin, which last week completed the first successful landing of its Novel Glenn booster.
