Austin Health’s virtual branch is operating as normal

Austin Health’s technology-enabled home care service, piloted in 2021 with funding from the federal government, is currently operating as normal.

The hospital’s Home and Virtual Care Virtual Unit currently admits up to 10 patients at a time, focusing on high clinical acuity patients such as cardiology and hematology patients. They are monitored via a watch or patch, and the hospital care team sees them in near real time via teleconference.

In February, the virtual department began integrating data from mobile devices with the EMR system, improving patient data management.
