There are patents notoriously difficult look for, but Confusion ensued an artificial intelligence-based tool that aims to make this process a little easier. The modern Patent Research Agent allows you to search for patents using natural language rather than a string of keywords.
For example, Perplexity says you can type something like: “Are there any patents for learning AI languages?” or “Key quantum computing patents from 2024” and Perplexity will return the relevant results along with AI-generated summaries of each.
Perplexity claims its tool also goes beyond exact keyword matching. This means that if you search for “activity trackers,” Perplexity will also display patents filed under related terms such as “activity bands,” “step counter watches,” and “health tracker watches.” Its tool can also search academic articles, public software repositories, and other state of the art sources.
Perplexity is making the patent research tool available to everyone for free in beta, with Pro and Max subscribers getting additional usage limits and configuration options. You can try this tool by entering a patent search directly into Perplexity.
