Next year you will be able to pay with PayPal in ChatGPT

Share

PayPal announced today that you will be able to exploit its wallet to make purchases directly through ChatGPT will begin sometime in 2026. ChatGPT’s recently added instant checkout feature will allow you to pay with PayPal using the same interface you already see when paying with PayPal through other services. You’ll have access to all your usual payment methods in your PayPal account and an overview of your shipping and contact information.

The collaboration comes just a month after OpenAI added a “Buy Now” button to ChatGPT and rolled out an instant checkout feature that was initially only available on Etsy and Shopify but has since been expanded to Walmart. Using OpenAI’s Agentic Commerce protocol not only makes buyers’ lives easier; it also automatically connects products from PayPal-enabled companies as an option to ChatGPT e-commerce setup without the need for individual registration.

More purchase options in ChatGPT will make it easier for users to make purchases across the OpenAI ecosystem, including the recent Atlas browser and the consumer device OpenAI is working on with Jony Ive. Turning ChatGPT agents into personal AI customers will give users more options to exploit the chatbot and could open up recent revenue streams for OpenAI.
