Google employees are working employees at the company’s campus in Chelsea, Modern York, received a notice on Sunday warning of a possible bedbug outbreak in the office. According to an email obtained by WIRED, exterminators arrived at the scene with a sniffer dog “and found credible evidence of their presence.” The email was sent to all Google employees in Modern York on behalf of the company’s environmental, health and safety team.
Employees were told to avoid the office until treatment was completed. On Monday morning they were allowed to return. Google is conducting additional inspections at other Google campuses in Modern York, including buildings on the company’s Hudson Square campus, “out of an abundance of caution,” the email said.
The company advised employees to file a report “if you experience symptoms that you believe may be related to possible bedbug exposure.” Additionally, “if you suspect you have seen a bedbug on site,” employees were instructed to report the sighting to the facility’s operations team. Employees were also told to contact professional exterminators if they found bedbugs in the home.
Sources tell WIRED that Google’s Modern York offices house multiple vast stuffed animals that are rumored to be involved in the outbreak. WIRED was unable to verify this information prior to publication. Google declined to comment.
This isn’t the first time Google’s Modern York office has been infested with bedbugs. In 2010, the company’s office on 9th Avenue in Manhattan experienced an explosion due to a wider bedbug infestation in Modern York.
