OpenAI is preparing to host its third annual DevDay 2025 developer conference on Monday. The company says more than 1,500 people are expected to gather at Fort Mason in San Francisco for “the largest-ever OpenAI event,” which will include announcements, keynotes from OpenAI executives and a fireside chat between CEO Sam Altman and the longtime designer Apple Jonym Ive.
Judging by the sound, DevDay 2025 is shaping up to be a grand display of OpenAI’s growing dominance in Silicon Valley over giants like Apple, Google, and Meta. OpenAI is currently working on an AI device, social media app, and AI-powered browser to work with Chrome. In other words, there’s a lot more going on at OpenAI than there was during the first DevDay in 2023, when there was mostly just ChatGPT and an API department through which developers could access their models.
At the same time, OpenAI faces more competition than ever in trying to attract developers.
Over the past year, Anthropic and Google’s AI models have become increasingly powerful in coding and web design tasks. To stay in the race, OpenAI was forced to release better AI models at lower prices. In the background, Meta has built an impressive roster of AI talent in its up-to-date Meta Superintelligence Labs group, which may become the next threat to OpenAI in the near future.
OpenAI unveiled its up-to-date AI model, GPT-4 Turbo, at the first DevDay of 2023, and Altman shared his vision for a marketplace of AI agents called the GPT Store. Days later, Altman was removed as CEO, only to return after a dramatic weekend of negotiations. In 2024, OpenAI responded with a more subdued conference, announcing a few significant updates for developers, such as an API for AI voice applications and little else.
No release has been confirmed for DevDay 2025, fueling many rumors. Perhaps OpenAI will finally unveil the AI-powered browser it’s working on, or maybe it will release an update to the AI device it’s building with Ive and former Apple executives. It is also possible that there will be updates related to the GPT store or a up-to-date offer enabling developers build agentic workflows.
TechCrunch will be in San Francisco and broadcasting the event live, so keep checking back for all the latest updates. Here’s what you need to know about OpenAI’s DevDay and how to watch it.

October 27-29, 2025
DevDay 2025 kicks off on October 6 at 10 a.m. PT with Altman’s keynote address, where he will showcase “announcements, live demonstrations, and a vision for how developers are changing the future with AI.” The keynote speech will last approximately one hour and will be broadcast live OpenAI YouTube page.
This is the only event that will be broadcast live to remote participants.
For face-to-face participants, there will be presentations and talks on stage led by Cursor CEO Michael Truell, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie and Andreessen Horowitz investment partner Kimberly Tan, among others. Several OpenAI staff will also give talks on their work, including modeling behavior researcher Laurentia Romaniuk and Codex manager Alexander Embiricos.
Later in the afternoon there will be two gigantic events to cap off DevDay. These last two events will not be broadcast live, but will be published on YouTube later in the day.
At 3:15 PM PT there will be a “Developer State of the Union” event with OpenAI CEO Greg Brockman and Olivier Godement, who leads the OpenAI platform product. Both OpenAI executives are tasked with “demonstrating new capabilities” and sharing predictions with developers.
Finally, at 4:15 p.m. PT, Altman and Ive will host a “Fireside Chat” to discuss “the art of building in the age of artificial intelligence.” This conversation will last approximately 45 minutes.
