Sora from OpenAI has already reached over 1 million downloads

Sora, OpenAI’s AI-powered social video generating app, has reached over 1 million downloads in less than five days since launch. That’s what Sora’s boss, Bill Peebles, says he said on Wednesday that Sora downloaded files faster than ChatGPT at launch, despite being an invite-only app.

Business launched a new Sora application on iOS starting September 30, giving users the ability to scroll through AI-generated videos as well as create their own using OpenAI’s modern Sora 2 model. It also allows users to insert an image of themselves or a friend into an AI video using the “cameo” feature. My colleague Hayden Field discovered that the app is filled with memes, OpenAI employees self-deceiving, and what can only be described as AI-generated sloppiness.

“The team is working hard to keep up with the explosive growth,” Peebles said. “More over-moderation features and fixes on the way!” The Sora app is currently only available in the US and Canada it currently sits at the top of the Apple App Store.
