Microsoft today brings AI Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4.1 AI models to its Microsoft 365 Copilot. It is a gigantic traffic that extends the selection of the model outside the scope of OPENAI models at Microsoft 365 Copilot, and will allow Microsoft customers access to anthrop models at Student and Microsoft Copilot Studio.
“Copilot will still be powered by the latest OPENAI models, and now our clients will have the flexibility of using anthrop models – starting with the researcher or when building agents at Microsoft Copilot Studio”, “,” Explains Charles LamannaPresident of the Microsoft business and industry team. “Adding Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4.1 develops our commitment to ensuring the best AI innovations from the entire industry to Microsoft 365 Copilot, tuned to work and tailored to business needs.”
The Microsoft researcher agent can now exploit the deep models of OpenAI or Claude Opus 4.1 from Anthropica. Researchers will see the “Try Claude” button at the top of the Microsoft 365 Copilot application, which provides access to Opus 4.1 instead of OPENAI models. “After entering, you will easily be able to switch between OpenAI and anthropic models,” says Lamanna.
Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4.1 will also be available as the model options at Copilot Studio, the Microsoft platform for building AI agents. “Thanks to this premiere, you can build, organize and manage agents powered by anthropic models for deep reasoning, automation of work flow and flexible agency tasks,” explains Lamanna. You will also be able to mix which models are used for specific tasks, with options from anthropic, openai and other models in the Azure model catalog.
Claude in scientists today introduces through the Frontier program to clients licensed by Microsoft 365 Copilot, who decide to enter. Copilot Studio users can also decide to access Claude.
Interestingly, AI Antropic models will still be hosted in Amazon Web Services, the main rival of Microsoft in the cloud. Microsoft gains access to Claude through Anthropic APILike any other programmer. Microsoft has previously concluded a contract with XAI to organize GROK 3 models on Azure, so I would not be surprised by a similar system with Anthropic models on Azure.
Announcement of Microsoft anthropic models in Microsoft 365 Copilot arrives only a week after the company began to favor Anthropic over OpenAI for the Visual Studio code. Github Copilot now paid users “First of all, relying on Claude Sonnet 4” while using the up-to-date automatic selection of the AI model of the Visual Studio Code.
Reports also suggest that Microsoft will soon exploit AI Antropic models in Excel and PowerPoint, after they have convinced that they have surpassed their own Openai models. “This is just the beginning – we commit ourselves to provide model innovations at speeds,” irritates Lamanna. “Be on a regular basis: Anthropic models will bring even stronger experiences of Microsoft 365 Copilot.”
