Why one VC thinks quantum is a greater unlock than AGI

Depending on how you think about it, there are half a dozen or more approach to the equipment. And I was excited that in the hardware approach the neutral atom approach was high. So we went back [Thompson’s] A company called Logiqal.

What happens if you are right?

I am a Venture investor and we believe in the convexity – taking the risk of things that will most likely not work, but if they work, it can be 500x.

This is a real innovation moving on earth if there is a chance that quantum computers will find a way to success. Unlock these engines of thinking, those calculation engines that can lead the future of material sciences, the future of pharmaceutical innovations, the future of logistics, the future of financial markets in a way that we have never seen before.

You can see the future in which you can create a pharmaceutical progress that can extend your life from 20 to 30 years. You could see changes in material sciences in which we could come up with novel products. It can support us get to Mars! This is what receives quantum calculation.

The way you talk about quantum calculation sounds very similar to how many AI enthusiasts say about artificial general intelligence.

In many respects, Quantum is today, in which AI returned in 2015, which is many great research and scientific projects and begins to have practical applications, not just pure research.

You mentioned that it is tough to counterfeit a quantum expert. I would think that it is not so tough to pretend to be an AI expert. How do you decide who to come back?

There are so many companies that are built and born in artificial intelligence that after their extrapolation 5, 10 years will not have a real real moat except the brand or speed. The brand and speed are rarely powerful enough to build a generational company.

I will give you an example. Brightai creates stickers that are roughly so gigantic [she makes a circle with her fist]. The company places a sticker for each telephone, in each HVAC system, in each water line system, and then watches it for a long time, 5, 10, 15, 20 years [and flags potential issues]. It’s a pretty good moat. You don’t tear all these stickers.

For the most part, the value of AI is charged to operators. Penny, my co -founder, is on the Microsoft board. If you think about it, Microsoft and Google – Google has 3 billion users. Microsoft has one billion users. They can start a product that is ok, not perfect, and still have price power, distribution power. And we think so much about the world in which elephants dance. Don’t be an ant.

How do you employ AI?

For everything. You don’t employ artificial intelligence, nothing. With each question, I mean that today I probably used it 25 times.

Did it replace Google for you?

All. All. Deep research, acquisition. Today I was looking for what works are falling in the world the fastest. I would really say it’s not a dozen times a day. That’s dozens of times a day.
