Artifact is dead, long live Yahoo’s version of Artifact. The architecture of Artifact, the news aggregation app created by Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger, will continue to exist in the flesh the brand new Yahoo News app.
The novel Yahoo News app, available for download on iOS and Android, gives users a personalized AI-powered news feed based on their interests, and a feature called Key Takeaways can display a summary of an article in bullet form when a reader feels TL ;DR .
Other features of the Yahoo News app include Top Stories, which collects popular stories for users to read and soon includes top recaps. You can block stories containing unwanted keywords and filter out specific publishers according to your preferences. And like Artifact, Yahoo News also allows you to flag content like clickbait headlines and then let the AI rewrite it into something better.
Yahoo is also moving some of what it creates in the News app to the Yahoo News online home page. Starting today, the site has a novel layout that highlights top news, displays personalized recommendations, and shows trending topics. The novel home page is available on a consent basis.
