Google is adding more Android to ChromeOS

Google announced Wednesday that Chrome OS will “soon be developed on large swaths of Android” so it can implement artificial intelligence features more quickly. The company says it will include things like the Android Linux kernel and Android platforms “as part of the ChromeOS foundation.”

According to Google, the changes won’t just mean more AI features. The company also noted that they will facilitate “simplify engineering efforts” and “help various devices, such as phones and accessories, work better with Chromebooks.” as detailed in the blog post.

Google certainly wants Chromebook users to try out as many AI-powered features as possible, so these changes will likely accelerate that. However, the company warns that while changes to the technology stack are “starting now,” they “won’t be ready for consumers for quite some time.”
