When do you talk about this recent application ecosystem, or the idea that you are the general director of all this, or simply BlueS?
I am only the general director of BlueSky Social. We have built a protocol and maintain the BlueSky application, but the protocol will accept our own life. The pieces will be normalized, its pieces will be populated by the community and evolve in different directions when recent people shape it.
If one of these applications blew and outweighted BlueSky, would it facilitate or hurt your company?
It would facilitate us – because they are shared balls if you remember.
Let’s say a video application, Skylight, goes megaviral. How does this common backend become essential?
This means that you can also display all films on BlueSky. This would probably change the way people interact to BlueSky, because all these content comes from another application. Programmers’ services that we mentioned are one of the monetization paths.
How do you plan to earn money?
Subscriptions soon. The next steps are checking what markets can cover these different applications. Other applications in the ecosystem will experiment with sponsored posts and the like. I think that the ads ultimately, in some form, come back to each other, but we do not intend to make ads like customary social applications. We will allow people to experiment and see what comes out of it.
The influx of enormous artists has appeared in BlueSky, but there is no direct way to earn on their work. Are you going to change it?
We give them a great move – and which can transform into money. One substantial thing is that not Downrank Links, so if you are the creator of YouTube or you have a patreon and post these links to BlueSky, you get a higher movement, even with fewer followers. This applies to compact creators and even press organizations. We have heard from enormous press organizations that BlueSky has better clicks and better subscription indicators. [WIRED can vouch for this: The platform has become a top traffic driver and source of new subscribers.]
The stars of the Democratic Party, such as Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, also joined BlueSky. Do you do something to be celebrities and influential?
We are taking the range of the community. We see a enormous raise in sectors, and maybe not as great celebrities, but great adhesion, like sports media. Mina Kites, a sports reporter and created a starting package that quickly brought many followers. We have developers, we have sport, we have study.
Would you welcome President Trump?
Yes – BlueSky is for everyone and we think that over time a broader public conversation must be on an open protocol. This allows people to choose their own moderation preferences. We think it is pliant enough to serve any utilize of all.
We are at the moment when freedom of speech is threatened. How do you think about it?
I think that relying on an open protocol is the most robust foundation of speech. We create digital data on user data in which you can control your identity and data. We build infrastructure that I hope will stay for a long time. BlueSky, an application, is only one page on which we can talk.
