Palantir helps DOGE in a huge IRS data project

Palantir, a programming company whose goal is Peter Thiel, is part of the effort of the so -called government efficiency department Elon Musk (Doge) in order to build a novel “mega API” in order to gain access to internal revenue services records, IRS sources.

Over the past three days, Doge and a handful of Palantir representatives, along with dozens of IRS career engineers, cooperate to build one API layer in front of all IRS databases during an event previously characterized as “Hackathon”, sources told. Palantir representatives were at the party this week, says a source with direct knowledge.

APIs are application programming interfaces that allow various data exchange applications and can be used to transfer IRS data to the cloud and access to them. Doge expressed interest in the API project, which may affect all IRS data, which include taxpayers’ names, addresses, social insurance numbers, tax declarations and employment data. The IRS API layer can also allow someone to compare IRS data with interoperable data sets from other agencies.

If this project goes to the end, Doge wants the Palantir Foundry software to become a “reading center of all IRS systems”, the source with direct knowledge says Wired, which means that everyone who has access can see and the ability to change all IRS data in one place. It is currently not clear who would have access to this system.

Foundry is a Palantir platform that can organize applications or launch AI models on basic data. After organizing and structure of the data, the “Ontology” Foundry layer can generate API interfaces for faster connections and machine learning models. This would allow users to quickly listen to software using artificial intelligence to sort agency data, which would require access to this confidential information.

Engineers, whose task is to complete the API project, are convinced that they can complete it within 30 days, says the source with direct knowledge.

Palantir created billions in government agreements. The company develops and maintains various program tools for enterprises and governments, including Foundry and Gotham, a data analytics tool that was used primarily in defense and intelligence. Alex Karp, general director of Palantir, recently mentioned the “disturbance” of initiatives reducing Doge costs and said: “Whatever is good for America, it will be good for Americans and very good for Palantir.” Former Palantir employees have also taken over the key Government Rollers of IT and DOGE in recent months.

Wired was the first to report that the Doge IRS team put up “Hackathon” in Washington this week to start the API project. The event began on Tuesday morning and ended on Thursday afternoon. The source in the room this week explained that the event was “very unstructured”. On Tuesday, the engineers wandered around the room, discussing how to achieve the Doge goal.

The Treasury Department did not answer the request for a comment confirming the role of Palantir in the project.

“The Treasury Department was pleased to gathered a team of IRS long -term engineers who have been identified as the most talented technical staff. Thanks to this coalition, it will improve IRS systems to create the most efficient service for the American taxpayer,” says the spokesman of the treasury. “This week, the team participated in IRS Roadmapping, a seminar of various strategic sessions, because they carefully work on creating efficient systems. This new leadership and direction maximizes their capabilities and serves as a multiplier of the force, which IRS needed for decades.”
